MannaBrew Superfood Espresso

Roasted Mesquite Bean Powder

NO CAFFEINE & NO ACIDITY

If you're looking for a healthier alternative to your usual cup of coffee, you might want to try MannaBrew! Unlike other coffee brands, we aren’t out here trying to tell you why our coffee is better than the next brand – because MannaBrew is not made from coffee beans.

Instead, it's made from the seedpods of the Mesquite tree, a superfood known for its many health benefits. These seedpods are slow roasted to bring out their delicious caramel and nutty flavours, giving you a rich and smooth taste without the caffeine jitters. You can enjoy MannaBrew just like you would your regular coffee - it looks and can be made the same way - but with the added bonus of a superfood boost. So why not give it a try? You might be surprised by how tasty and healthy it is!

Our Story

The MannaBrew Story

Mesquite Trees

The MannaBrew story begins in South Africa, specifically in a small town called Prieska, located deep in the heart of the Karoo. The town is situated on the banks of the mighty Orange River, where farmland is being overrun by thousands of invasive thorn trees known as Mesquite trees (Prosopis glandulosa). Although most locals consider these trees a problem, one family has found that the deep-yellow seed pods that grow on them are actually an incredible superfood.

Harvesting

Aam and Brandt Coetzee, two brothers who have been working with Mesquite trees for over 26 years, have made an exciting discovery - they can make "coffee" from the seedpods of these trees, in addition to other superfood products.

However, there is only a brief period of 2 to 3 weeks each year in which the Mesquite seedpods can be harvested before the summer rains arrive. Despite this small window of opportunity, the locals in the impoverished Karoo town are happy to see the Mesquite harvest arrive, as it provides a source of income and employment.

Job Creation

The Mesquite harvest provides an opportunity for locals to venture into the fields and gather the seedpods, which are then purchased from them based on the weight they have collected. This system creates seasonal work opportunities and helps to support the local economy.

Once collected, the pods are meticulously sorted by hand to ensure only the highest quality ones are used. After sorting, they are weighed, bagged, and transported to Somerset West, located in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Processing

After arriving at the MannaBrew processing plant, the Mesquite seedpods undergo another round of sorting before they are roasted, milled, and blended into the perfect ground consistency. This allows the Mesquite Espresso to be brewed using almost any type of coffee-making instrument.

The blended Mesquite Espresso is then packed in specially made bags designed to ensure a long shelf life. These bags are 100% bio-degradable and recyclable, making them an eco-friendly choice.

Thanks to the slow roasting process used during production, the natural sweetness and unique flavours of this superfood from nature are brought out, resulting in a delicious and healthy beverage that can be enjoyed at any time of day.

The ”Coffee”

MannaBrew does not contain caffeine, but the essential sugars from the Mesquite beans provide a natural energy boost and uplifting effect, similar to caffeinated coffee but without any side effects. Once you've tried MannaBrew, other beverages may pale in comparison due to its unique taste and energizing properties.

Changing Lives!

This is not just another consumer product – this is a product that changes lives.

The Numbers Tell Another Story

A story about the stop of the spread of the Mesquite tree, saving water and creating jobs.

Stopping the Spread of Mesquite Trees

Stopping the Spread

A single 226g box of MannaBrew is made up of around 75 Mesquite seed pods, which equals to about 1125 seeds in total. According to research, around 35% of these seeds can germinate within the first year. This means that each box of MannaBrew has the power to prevent the growth of approximately 393 new Mesquite trees that could invade and take over valuable farmland in the next year. And as each tree produces more seeds, this number can grow exponentially over time!

Saving Water

Saving Water

With each box of MannaBrew, you are also contributing to saving approximately 8 million liters of precious underground water per year. This is because the average Mesquite tree (2.5 to 3.5 meters high) consumes about 60 liters of water per day. By preventing the growth of new trees, the water that would have been used by those trees can now be used for other purposes, such as farming or drinking water.

Creating Jobs

Creating Jobs

At present, approximately one thousand individuals participate in the annual harvest. Their contribution is significant since the unemployment rate in the Northern Cape region, where the Mesquite seedpods are collected, stands at 40%!

By drinking MannaBrew, not only do you receive a nutritious energy boost, but you also play a role in preserving the Northern Cape's ecology and positively impacting the lives of many harvesters.
